Various colored raspberry fruits offer a unique possibility to study the genetics of pigment biosynthesis in this important soft fruit. Anthocyanidin synthase (Ans) catalyzes the conversion of colorless leucoanthocyanidins to colored anthocyanidins, a key step in biosynthesis of anthocyanins.
