Training

A full-time training period of 2 to 3 years is prescribed. Part-time training is also possible, this usually lasts 3 to even 4 ½ years. The theoretical part is taught at school and learned and used in the respective educational institutions. Many tasks are worked out jointly in teams and prepared as projects. Facilities for disabled people provide the practical part. This includes curative education facilities, semi-inpatient and inpatient homes. There is also the possibility to complete the practical part in institutions abroad. As a rule, the internships are carried out in block form or on a daily basis. After the training, there is a one-year internship in a facility. A shortening of the training period is possible under certain pre-training conditions. In order to be allowed to start the training, intermediate education or equivalent previous training is required.

The Qualification

After the theoretical and practical part of the training, a final exam is taken. This examination is a prerequisite for the approval of a recognized internship. The exam requires a written and oral part as well as a practical exam. The health suitability for the training and a certificate of good conduct must be obtained before the start. In addition to knowledge of the job, further training, such as a first aid course, is required.
